Liverpool Active Fest 2023

Liverpool Active Fest 2023 was a free five-week multisport program designed for teens aged 14-18 with a round robin of three activities aimed to get young people moving in a fun and supported way. Activities provided were entirely free to participants and were followed by a free BBQ as well as voucher giveaways, free sports equipment, shirts and showbags.

Active Fest activities are funded by the NSW Office of Sport and aim to increase physical activity and improve the well-being of young people in our community.

Attendance increased each week with 30 total registrations and positive feedback from parents and participants with many bringing friends along to join in the fun. The majority of the attendees were girls with 17 girls and 13 boys registered. We completed the series with a “Family Fun” event on the 25th August 2023 where young people brought their siblings and parents along to join in the fun, thanks to the support of South Western Sydney Local Health District.

All participants were from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background from nine local suburbs and speaking a total of seven languages.

80% of particiaptns came out of the program feeling confident or very confident in participating in physical activity with ALL participants ending the program rating their health as good or very good. There were other flow on positive effects such as increases in the amount of water participants drank each day as well as the number of days they were spending active by the end of the program.

This initiative was supported by the NSW Office of Sport and Liverpool City Council and delivered in partnership with Urban Rec, South Western Sydney Local Health District and South Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club.

Some footage from the activities can be viewed here.
